The inspiration

The bird is mysterious. Sometimes we see it, but we don’t hear it. Sometimes we listen to them, but as hard as we try, we can’t see them. The Stork brings the baby, the Phoenix rises from the ashes, and the Jackdaw brings omens. The Albatross can live for more than sixty years, the Peregrine Falcon is the fastest animal, and Eagles see the furthest of all animals. Birds have been on Earth for 60 million years, and recent studies suggest that could be extended to 100 million years. Each bird name conjures an image and narrative, robin, cuckoo, raven, pelican, buzzard, and canary, to name a few.

The dove

One bird, in particular, the white dove and its counterpart, the pigeon, has a long and meaningful relationship with humans, possibly dating back 10,000 years before the advent of written language, and has come to represent and symbolize many things: Peace, Love, Devotion, Loyalty, Resourcefulness, Navigation, Messengers, Grace, Gentleness, Purity, and Hope. Those qualities connect us to our best selves.

Inspired by the dove, the Peace Matrix is a story of love and peace in a fragmented world. It’s always there, always here. It can be found around the next corner. As Leonard Cohen insightfully said, “There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.”

The series

This series of paintings, inspired by the dove, The Peace Matrix, is a story of love and peace in a fragmented world. It’s always there, always here. It can be found around the next corner. As Leonard Cohen so insightfully said, “There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.”

The series starts with black birds on a white backround, white birds on a black background, followed by adding new birds and a mix of greys. The series continues with more colors and birds eventually moving from the grid to multi-colored organic shapes.
